We are making some important changes to NEJM Knowledge+ Internal Medicine Board Review to enable you to earn many more MOC points.
Many of you are aware of the changes that the American Board of Internal Medicine (ABIM) and the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME) announced earlier this year that ABIM diplomates will now be able to receive Maintenance of Certification Self-Assessment (MOC Part 2) points for some CME activities that meet the requirements of ABIM’s Medical Knowledge Assessment Recognition Program. NEJM Knowledge+ is pleased to participate in this new program.
Earn More MOC Points
All of our our questions are and have always been approved for CME credit, while, up until now, only a subset of questions had been submitted for approval by ABIM for MOC accreditation. The number of correctly answered questions needed to earn a CME credit versus an MOC point was calculated differently, with a maximum of 80 MOC points and a maximum of 270 CME credits.
Beginning on June 15, 2016, the number of CME credits earned is equal to the number of MOC points, with 1 CME credit and 1 MOC point per 6 correctly answered questions. You can claim your CME credits earned in NEJM Knowledge+ as MOC points, and we will track and display your earned points on the dashboard and in the MOC/CME Center.
Retroactive Submission of MOC Points to ABIM Via New ACCME System
For longtime users of NEJM Knowledge+, we are retroactively awarding points earned in 2014 and 2015 by submitting CME credit that was previously earned to ABIM as MOC points. Even if your access to NEJM Knowledge+ has ended, you can still claim MOC points for the CME credit that you earned in NEJM Knowledge+ between 2014 and today. (Questions? Going Forward
If you are a current NEJM Knowledge+ Internal Medicine Board Review customer, any CME you earn going forward will automatically earn you MOC Part 2 points.
NEJM Knowledge+ will transmit your MOC points to ABIM via ACCME, if you have provided your ABIM number and date of birth in the MOC/CME Center. No paper transcripts are necessary, and all of your data will be transmitted automatically and seamlessly. The new ACCME submission system transmits your points every 24 hours, so it may take 24 to 48 hours for your MOC points to appear on the ABIM website.
Keep Learning and Keep Earning
Although the number of MOC points in NEJM Knowledge+ is now more than you need in any given cycle with ABIM, eager learners can get to the 100% threshold within a year.
We keep adding new content to NEJM Knowledge+, and we fully anticipate continuing to offer CME and MOC points for all of it. This means that if you renew NEJM Knowledge+, you’ll have a single easy-to-use ongoing source for earning and managing your CME credits and Part 2 MOC points as well as building and maintaining your clinical knowledge.
